The Electric Reindeer is Snowtrail’s name for an electric sled, the e-Scort Comfort made by eDream in Finland, which runs near-silent and without exhaust. You drive it yourself on trails led by a guide.

The route runs through snowy forest to a log cabin, where there is hot glögi and a light snack, and the quiet of the machines means you may see wildlife on the way. The tour ends with a visit to Snowtrail’s reindeer.

What the listing does not publish is the length of the route, how long you spend driving, and how large the small group gets.

Questions people ask

Do we need a driving licence, and who is allowed to drive?

No licence is needed. The minimum age to drive an Electric Reindeer is 15, and drivers under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The page stops there: it does not say how children under 15 travel on this tour, or how many people share one electric sled. A family with younger children should ask how they are carried before booking, because the three-year minimum age for the tour and the fifteen-year minimum for driving are two very different rules.

How is this different from Snowtrail's snowmobile safari?

Both are four-hour small-group tours that end with Snowtrail's reindeer, and both include winter gear and pickup. The difference is who can drive and what it feels like. The snowmobile needs a driver of 18 or over with a valid driving licence; the Electric Reindeer needs no licence and can be driven from 15. It is also described as near-silent and fume-free, so it suits a group that wants the forest quiet more than it wants power under the handlebars.

Where and when does pickup happen?

Pickup is included within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre. Be ready in the hotel lobby or at the agreed meeting point a few minutes before the booked time, and allow 10 to 15 minutes either way for routing and weather. The pickup time in your confirmation is also the start of the activity, so the four hours begin at your door rather than at the trail. If you are staying further out, settle a meeting point with Snowtrail before you book.
