For the fullest time on the ice, book the trip from the ranch by Lake Pyhäjärvi: there is a fire and, if you catch something, it can be cooked there. For the lowest price and an unhurried time on the ice, the operator's own trip on the same lake does the job. If you have no winter clothing or want to drive a snowmobile as well, book the trip from Luosto.

What might we catch?

On Lake Pyhäjärvi the ranch names perch, whitefish and rainbow trout. The other two do not promise a species, and the operator's own trip on the same lake talks of a spot chosen for the best chance of a catch rather than of any fish in particular. None of them promises a catch at all.

Do we drill the hole ourselves?

On both trips on Lake Pyhäjärvi, yes: the guide shows you how to drill through the ice and then how to fish. The snowmobile trip from Luosto does not say who drills, so ask if that is part of what you want. On the ranch's trip the wait for a bite is spent by the fire with snacks and a warm drink.

Can we cancel if it is too cold?

The ranch's trip is sold through a booking platform with free cancellation until a day before. The operator's own trip charges the full price within seven days, and the Luosto trip charges 25 euros from eight days out and the full price from seven. None of them lists a temperature at which it is called off.
