The short answer

For the longest stated time in the sleigh at the lowest price, book the longest of the rides at the reindeer park on the road between Pyhä and Luosto. For a meal as part of the outing, choose the ride to lunch in the forest. For stars and a chance of the aurora, the evening ride is the one to book. Without a car, the safari sold from Luosto brings the transfer and clothing with it.

The reindeer outings around Pyhä and Luosto differ most by the part of the day they fill.

Morning

Kairankutsu’s hour at the reindeer park is spent in the sleigh on forest tracks, and it is the longest ride here whose length is stated.1

Lunch

Its lunch trip rides to a lávvu tent in the forest at a farm on the Sodankylä side, where reindeer soup and a pastry with coffee are served.2

Evening

The evening ride goes out after dark, and the farm says that with luck the aurora comes out above the sleigh.3

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

Do we feed the reindeer?

On the hour at the reindeer park, yes: the farm visit that follows the ride is where you meet and feed them. The lunch trip says meeting the reindeer up close is included. The evening ride and the Luosto safari do not mention feeding, so ask if it matters to you.

Can someone with limited mobility come?

The reindeer park describes its hour in the sleigh as suitable for guests with limited mobility, and the ride itself is spent sitting down. The other three do not say, so ask them how far you walk from the car to the sleigh. The park describes its half-hour ride in the same words, if an hour is too long.

What if we have to cancel?

The three farm tours charge the full price for a cancellation or no-show within seven days. The Luosto safari charges 25 euros eight days or more ahead and the full price from seven days before. Either way, a week's notice is the line to watch.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
