Ylläs: activities, tours and guides

Ylläs is a fell with a village on each side, Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi, about half an hour from Kittilä Airport and Kolari railway station, and most of the winter outings this handbook covers are sold from one of the two.

Ylläs is one fell with two villages, Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi, on opposite sides of it, both in the municipality of Kolari.1 Several tours below collect guests only on one side, or charge extra for the other, so check which village a tour starts from before you book.

Kittilä Airport and Kolari railway station are each about half an hour away, and a shuttle bus meets the night train at Kolari. From Rovaniemi the resort advises a car or taxi, about two hours.1

Huskies, reindeer, snowmobiles, the northern lights and ice fishing are sold here, and so are private Santa visits, at your cottage or at his cabin near Äkäslompolo; the Santa guide below sets them against a trip to Levi or Rovaniemi.
