The best snowmobile tour in Levi

The short answer

Choose by what the day is for. For the most time on the machine, the full-day wilderness safari costs the least per hour of driving. For a first go, the one-hour beginners' ride is enough to know. If you want to fish, see the Snow Village or meet animals, book the tour built around that, not a plain safari. To drive alone, pick a tour that sells a single-driver supplement.

In Levi a snowmobile is sold two ways: as the whole point of the day, and as the way to reach a lake, a farm or a snow hotel. The best tour depends on which of those you want. Here is one pick for each, with the reason.

For the most driving

Book Safartica’s full-day wilderness safari. It lasts six hours with about four to five of them driving, and a soup lunch, for 249 euros a person.1 Divided by the driving time that is 49.80 to 62.25 euros an hour, against 64.50 for Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park’s ride that promises two full hours at the handlebars for 129 euros. On the full day two people share each machine, and nobody under 13 comes.

For a first go

Wild Nordic’s one-hour beginners’ ride, at 99 euros a person, is enough to find out whether you like it before paying for a day. Two adults share each snowmobile, and the driver needs a B-category licence and must be 18.

To drive alone

Most of the tours on this page put two people on each machine and price the seat. Safartica sells a single-driving supplement of 90 euros a person on its ice fishing safari, and Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park offers single driving as a supplement on its fishing trip without printing the amount. Kinos offers a single-rider snowmobile on its fishing safari, from the age of 18, without saying what it adds to the price.

With fishing

Kinos rides a 25-kilometre route to the ice in three hours for 190 euros, with winter outerwear, the fishing gear and the fishing licence included. Levi’s fishing safaris are compared, down to where children sit, in snowmobile and ice fishing in Levi.

To see the Snow Village

Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park’s five-hour day rides to the Snow Village with the entry, a buffet lunch, overalls and boots in the 299-euro price. It takes nobody under 11. The other ways of getting there from Levi are on the Snow Village from Levi.

With huskies and reindeer

The same park’s four-hour day adds a husky farm and a reindeer farm to a shared snowmobile ride for 198 euros. Read the distances before booking: each animal ride is 500 metres, so it is a taste of three things rather than a long run behind any of them.

To meet Santa

Polar Lights Tours takes a private group to a log cabin to visit Santa, by snowmobile-drawn sleigh or husky sled, in one hour with transfers from the centre, at 201 euros a person. It is a visit with a ride attached, not a snowmobile safari.

For an evening under the aurora, see the aurora snowmobile evenings in Levi; for where a child sits and from what age, see family snowmobile safaris in Levi. The plain two-hour safaris are compared in snowmobile safaris in Levi, and the rest of the resort is on the Levi destination page.

What each Santa programme costs a family of four, per hour and per minute with Santa where the listing says, is worked out in Santa Claus visit prices in Levi.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

What if nobody in our group has a driving licence?

You can still go, as passengers. Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park's family safari lets adults without a licence ride in the sled behind the guide's machine, subject to availability, and Easy Travel says its ice fishing trip can be taken as a scenic sled ride by anyone without a licence. Driving yourself is a different matter: Wild Nordic's ride and the husky and reindeer day both ask for a valid B-category licence.

Is the discounted price on a listing the one we will pay?

Perhaps, but do not plan on it. On the day we read them, five Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park listings showed a struck-through price with a lower offer beside it: the two-hour ride at 116 euros instead of 129, the Snow Village day at 269 instead of 299. This page uses the regular prices throughout, because an offer on one day says nothing about the week you travel.

Do we need our own winter clothes?

On most of these tours, no. The Snow Village day and the husky and reindeer day from Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park include overalls and boots, Kinos includes winter outerwear on its fishing safari, and the two-hour ride from the same park dresses you before the driving starts. Easy Travel's fishing trip does not list winter clothing among what is included, so ask before you go.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
