The best Santa Claus visit from Kemijärvi for your party

The short answer

For children of pre-school and primary age with a car, the Salla afternoon at the Arctic Circle, because it gives them things to do before the meeting. For a family without a car, the guided day from Kemijärvi. For teenagers or adults who mainly want the photograph, the free office in Rovaniemi. And if you are in town for the Christmas opening in late November, Santa comes to the square without any booking.

Four ways to meet Santa are open to someone staying in Kemijärvi, and each suits a different party better than the rest.

Small children, with a car

Drive the fifty minutes to Salla in December or January. Its afternoon at the Arctic Circle puts a post office, a cabin and gingerbread with Mrs Santa before the meeting, and ends with a family photo.1

A family without a car

Book the guided day that collects you in Kemijärvi. It is dear, but it is the only way on this list to reach Santa with no driving and with clothing lent.

Teenagers, couples, or a tight budget

Drive the hour to Rovaniemi and walk into Santa’s office, which costs nothing, as meeting Santa Claus in Rovaniemi explains. Older children rarely need a programme around the photograph.

In town in late November

Watch for the town’s Christmas opening. In 2025 Santa arrived on the Taivaan Tulet square during the afternoon programme, with a post box for letters to Korvatunturi.2 The three bookable options are set side by side on Santa Claus from Kemijärvi.

Questions people ask

We are in Kemijärvi between February and November. What is left?

Rovaniemi. The Salla afternoon runs only in December and January, and the town's own appearance is tied to its Christmas opening. Santa's office in Rovaniemi is open all year and free to enter, an hour's drive away, so a family visiting in spring or autumn can still meet him; the guided day's listing does not give a season, so ask whether it runs on your date.

Is the guided day worth it for a family of four?

Only if the transport and clothing are the problem you need solved. It prices per person at 349 euros and prints no child fare, so a family should ask for one before booking. The meeting itself is the same Santa you could see for nothing by driving to Rovaniemi, and the photograph costs extra either way, so what you pay for is the day being organised around you.

Where is the photograph with Santa included?

Only in Salla, whose listing puts a family photo in the afternoon. The guided day says photos with Santa cost extra, and at the office in Rovaniemi the meeting is free while the pictures are sold separately: this site's Rovaniemi guide gives the price list, from 55 euros for a downloadable set for up to five people. Your own phone is the free alternative wherever it is allowed.
