Husky safari in Ranua: which ride to book

The short answer

Choose by who drives. If nobody wants to steer, book Trott Husky's seated ride, where a musher drives. If two adults want to share the driving and bring children along in the sled, book an Arctic Borealis safari of one or two hours. For adults and teenagers from sixteen who want a team each, Trott Husky's driving safari is the one. All of them include time with the dogs afterwards.

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest price per adult. All price per adult. Only price is marked: sitting, sharing a sled and driving your own team are different outings, not better and worse versions of one.

Where these figures come from
  • Trott Husky: 2 h: A musher drives and you sit in the sled, for about ten kilometres. Time with the dogs and a hot drink by the fire afterwards.
  • Trott Husky: 3 h: Each guest drives a team of their own, standing on the runners. An hour longer and 85 euros dearer, and closed to anyone under sixteen.
  • Arctic Borealis: 1 h: One adult drives and another sits, swapping at a break halfway; children ride in the same sled, and under-fours on a lap.
  • Arctic Borealis: 2 h: The same shared driving over a longer trail through the forest, and not recommended for children under three.

Husky rides in Ranua come from two kennels. Trott Husky sells on the booking platforms; Arctic Borealis Huskies moves its dogs to a husky park near the Wildlife Park for the winter and sells on its own site and through Ranua Resort. The choice rests on a single question: who holds the sled.

If you want to sit

Trott Husky’s two-hour ride puts you in the sled while a musher drives the team. It suits anyone who would rather watch the dogs work than steer them.

If you want to share the driving

At Arctic Borealis one adult drives while another sits, and they swap halfway; children travel in the same sled. The one-hour ride is the shorter way in, the two-hour ride the longer trail.

If you want a team of your own

Trott Husky’s three-hour safari gives each guest a team to drive, standing on the runners behind the dogs. It takes nobody under sixteen and is not suitable in pregnancy or for anyone with back problems.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

How do we get to the kennel?

On your own. Neither kennel includes a transfer in its price. Trott Husky's platform listings give a meeting point on the map, and Arctic Borealis runs its winter rides from its husky park near Ranua Wildlife Park, while rides booked through Ranua Resort leave from the resort's reception. Without a car, ask the kennel whether it can collect you, or book a taxi before the day.

Can we ride in November?

Only with Arctic Borealis, and not always on a sled. Its winter rides near the Wildlife Park run from December to April; in November it works from its home kennel at Pohjasperä, 55 kilometres from Ranua, mostly with dog carts that you drive like a sled, in groups of up to ten. Trott Husky's seated and driving rides run from December to April.

What if we have to cancel?

Trott Husky's platform listings refund in full up to 24 hours before the start. Arctic Borealis, booked on its own site, refunds all but ten per cent until fifteen days before and nothing after that, and Ranua Resort, which resells its rides, cancels free until fourteen days before. With an uncertain date, the platform listings are the flexible choice.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
