Santa Claus from Ivalo

The short answer

Stay in Ivalo. Two farms near the village sell private Santa visits on their own websites: a sleigh ride to Santa at the reindeer farm in December and January, and Santa in the husky farm’s cabin as part of a visit there. If you want a longer programme with other families, Saariselkä, a short drive away, sells one. Rovaniemi makes a long day from here.

The booking platforms sell husky walks, reindeer outings, snowmobile rides, aurora evenings and ice fishing at Ivalo, but no meeting with Santa. Two farms near the village sell one anyway, on their own websites.

In Ivalo: two private visits

The reindeer farm six kilometres from the centre takes your family by sleigh to find Santa, in December and January,1 and the husky farm brings him into its cabin as an addition to a visit there.2 Both are for one family at a time; how they compare is on the best Santa Claus visit from Ivalo.

Saariselkä: the short trip

Saariselkä and Ivalo share an airport: the regional tourist site puts Ivalo village about 10 minutes from it by car and Saariselkä about 25.3 Saariselkä sells a booked Santa programme, described in the Saariselkä Santa guide. Book it for a set time and plan the short journey around it.

Rovaniemi: the long day

Rovaniemi is where you can also meet Santa without booking a programme, and the choice there is set out in meeting Santa Claus in Rovaniemi. But the same site gives about three hours by road from Rovaniemi to Saariselkä,3 so from Ivalo it is a long day, best kept for a trip where Santa is the point.

The rest of the village is on the Ivalo destination page.

Questions people ask

Why is there no Santa for Ivalo on the booking platforms?

Because the two visits near the village are sold only on the farms’ own websites. Our survey of the booking platforms in September 2026 found husky, reindeer, snowmobile, aurora and ice fishing outings for Ivalo and no Santa programme, and this page first said so. The farms’ own pages, read later, list the private visits.

Does the Saariselkä programme collect from Ivalo?

Check when booking. The Saariselkä Santa guide describes the programme, and its listing is written for guests in Saariselkä. Airport shuttles run to Saariselkä for every scheduled flight, and by car the trip is short; plan it so that you arrive before the booked time.

Is Rovaniemi worth it from Ivalo?

Only if Santa is the centre of the holiday. The regional tourist site gives about three hours by road from Rovaniemi to Saariselkä, so from Ivalo it is a long day with small children. The Saariselkä programme is the practical choice for most families staying here.

Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
