Best ice fishing in Levi: one pick for each kind of angler

The short answer

If you arrived without winter gear, book the campfire trip that lends thermal clothing and takes children from four. If the cold worries you more than the fish, book the trip with a heated shelter and soup. For a small group on a lake further out and a few photos of the day, pay a little more. Choose the snowmobile day only if the ride matters as much as the fishing.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Nothing is ranked: the fishing is much the same, and the right trip depends on the day around it. Prices are on the ice fishing price page for Levi.

Where these figures come from
  • Campfire trip: Two and a half hours with thermal clothing lent, children from four and any catch grilled over the fire.
  • Heated shelter: Two and a half hours with hot salmon soup in a heated wooden shelter, for at most eight.
  • Lake further out: Twenty minutes' drive to a lake for a group of at most eight, with a few photos afterwards.
  • Snowmobile day: Five hours with a snowmobile ride, ice fishing and a soup lunch outdoors, two to a machine.

Ice fishing from Levi is sold by several companies, and what separates them is how they keep you warm and how you get to the ice.

Clothing lent, catch grilled

Wild Nordic lends thermal clothing to everyone, takes children from four and grills whatever you catch over a campfire; if nothing bites, the fire is for hot drinks.1

Warm, or further out

Keo Wilderness fishes from a heated wooden shelter and serves hot salmon soup.2 Beyond Arctic drives about twenty minutes to a lake with a small group and sends a few photos afterwards.3

A snowmobile day

Safartica makes a five-hour day of it: a snowmobile ride two to a machine, fishing and a soup lunch outdoors.4 The trips are also compared on ice fishing in Levi.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

Do we need a fishing permit?

Not for ordinary fishing through the ice with one rod, which is free in Finland without the fisheries management fee. Rapids, running water with migratory fish and some private waters are exceptions. The guide chooses the lake and knows whether it needs anything more, so on a guided trip there is nothing to arrange.

What happens to the fish we catch?

On the campfire trip, whatever you catch is grilled over the fire; if nothing bites, there are hot drinks and snacks by the fire instead. The other listings do not say whether you may keep the catch, so ask the guide on the ice, and bring a bag if you hope to take something back to cook.

Where do we meet?

The campfire trip meets outside the Levi tourist information centre, twenty minutes before the start, or at its safari centre if you have your own car. The heated-shelter and small-group trips include transport from Levi, and the snowmobile day starts at its operator's office, with pick-up on request close to the centre.

Lapland Handbook Staff

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
