Northern lights tour price in Tornio: what the money covers

The short answer

Compare what is included before the headline price. The cheapest evening is also the only one that refunds bad weather. The one that lends a full winter outfit saves a rental for anyone who came without one. The photographer's evening charges extra for the full-resolution files. No aurora evening here prints a child fare, so a family should ask before booking, and the local company needs 48 hours' notice to refund.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest price per person and the listing promises money back when the weather spoils the night. All four price per adult and none prints a child fare. The forecast-led tour at 132 euros and the snowshoe walk at 135 are left out of the table to keep it to four columns.

Where these figures come from
  • e-Coach: A car hunt with pick-up in Kemi, Tornio-Haparanda or Ylitornio, tips on aurora apps, and money back if bad weather spoils the night.
  • LappOne Experiences: Hotel pick-up, a hot drink and a biscuit, and a photographer; winter gear and a tripod are rented, and the raw image files cost extra.
  • Nordic Safaris: Evening: Sausages by a fire in the woods near Tornio, sold on the company's own site, for four people or more.
  • Sea Lapland Safaris: A full winter outfit when needed, a hot drink and a grilled sausage at a campfire away from the lights of Kemi.

Aurora evenings around Tornio cost between 99 and 135 euros a head, and the spread is small enough that the contents matter more than the figure.

What is left out of the price

The photographer’s evening is the one with named extras: warm gear and a tripod are rented, and the raw image files cost a supplement on top of the pictures the photographer takes of you. The Kemi campfire evening goes the other way and puts a full winter outfit in the price. For a visitor who arrived with a city coat, that difference is worth more than the eight euros between the two tickets.

The deadline to change your mind

The platforms let you cancel free until a day before. The Tornio company sells from its own site and refunds only if you cancel more than 48 hours ahead; inside that it keeps the whole amount.1 Aurora forecasts are worth little two days out, so its evenings are best booked once your dates are fixed and whatever the sky promises.

Families

No aurora evening sold here prints a child fare. Ask each seller before booking, and set that answer against the clothing: an evening that lends a winter outfit to each child can cost less overall than a cheaper ticket plus rentals. What the evenings are like with children is covered on family northern lights in Tornio.

Questions people ask

What does an evening cost for two adults?

Twice the per-person price, since every evening here is priced per head: from 198 euros for the car hunt with the bad-weather refund to 270 euros for the snowshoe walk to the Swedish island. The local late evening, at 220 euros for two, will not run unless two more people book, so a couple should ask whether their date already has others on it.

Is the price the same on every booking platform?

Where the same evening is sold on two platforms, the one this site could compare was: the fireside evening at a hut in Keminmaa was listed from 99 euros on both GetYourGuide and Viator when read. The Tornio company sells only on its own site and the two Tornio-Haparanda evenings each on one platform, so for those there is nothing to compare; the price on the listing is the price.

Is the pick-up from our hotel in the price?

On three of the six evenings, by their own wording. The car hunt collects from your accommodation and names Tornio and Haparanda, and both the photographer's evening and the forecast-led tour include a hotel pick-up. The Kemi campfire evening shows a pick-up badge without naming Tornio, and the Tornio company's pages do not mention transport at all, so ask those two before counting on a lift.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
