Husky safari price in Kemi: what a family actually pays

The short answer

A family that wants the most sled time for its money should book the farm's hour-long ride: it is the dearest ticket but the cheapest minute, and a family of four pays less there than for the Kemi ride through the local agency. If you have no car, compare that agency's hotel-pickup price with the farm's ticket plus its transfer before choosing.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Farm, 30 min on the sledFarm, 60 min on the sledKemi ride, platformKemi ride, agency
Adult €125 – the lowest adult price €179 €195 €230
Child €85 (4 to 12) €115 (4 to 12) Not stated €155 (3 to 11)
Family of four €420 – the lowest total for two adults and two children €588 Not stated €770
Adult, per minute on the sled €4.17 €2.98 – the lowest price per minute of driving Not stated Not stated
Transport Drive, or a transfer from €90 Drive, or a transfer from €90 Car from the Kemi safari house Car from your hotel

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest adult price, the lowest total for two adults and two children and the lowest price per minute of driving. Per person unless a total. A family of four is two adults and two children aged four to eleven. The farm's transfer is priced for one to four people, and the page does not say whether that is one way.

Where these figures come from
  • Farm, 30 min on the sled: Half an hour on the sled in a two-hour visit at the Keminmaa farm, hot drink included, with boots and overalls to rent there.
  • Farm, 60 min on the sled: The farm's hour on the sled from mid-January. The highest ticket at the farm and the lowest price for each minute you spend driving.
  • Kemi ride, platform: The five-kilometre self-drive ride from the Kemi safari house, with the outfit and the car to the kennel included; no child price printed.
  • Kemi ride, agency: The same kennel trip through a Kemi travel agency, which adds a car from your hotel in Kemi or Tornio and prints a child fare.

The husky prices around Kemi look like a ladder from 89 to 230 euros. Two things break it: the farm in Keminmaa charges for minutes on the sled, and the ride from Kemi costs more or less depending on who sells it.

The minute on the sled

The farm’s shortest ride, 15 minutes for 89 euros, works out at almost six euros a minute for an adult. Its half hour costs 125, and its full hour 179.1 Per minute that is 4.17 and then 2.98, so the hour is half the rate of the short ride. A family of four pays 308, 420 and 588 euros for the three, with children aged four to twelve on the lower fare.2

One trip, two prices

The ride from the Kemi safari house costs 195 euros an adult on the booking platform, which prints no child price. A travel agency in Kemi sells the same kennel trip for 230 an adult and 155 a child, with a car from your hotel in Kemi or Tornio.3 For a family of four that comes to 770 euros, 182 more than the farm’s hour.

What getting there adds

The agency price includes the car. The farm’s does not: its transfers are priced per car for up to four people, 90 euros from Kemi airport, 105 from the train station and 135 from Tornio, without saying whether that is one leg or both. Even with one such leg added, the farm’s hour for a family stays below the agency’s total.

Questions people ask

What do we pay if something gets damaged?

At the Keminmaa farm, damage to equipment or dogs caused by not following the guide's instructions is paid on the spot. For large damage the farm takes a lump sum of 350 euros there and then and invoices the rest after the repair, with staff time charged at 45 euros an hour plus VAT. It also asks every guest to carry their own insurance.

Is a meal included?

Not in the ride price at the farm, which includes a hot drink, and on its short programme a snack of juice and biscuits by the fire. Lunch and dinner can be ordered in advance: its pages give lunch from 12 or 15 euros, depending on the page, and dinner from 25. The ride from Kemi includes a hot drink only.

What if we have to cancel?

The terms differ by seller. The platform refunds the Kemi ride in full up to 24 hours before. The farm's own terms are free up to 20 days, half between 19 and 3 days and full inside 3, though its ride pages also say a booking not cancelled 24 hours ahead is charged in full. The Kemi agency charges 10 percent more than 31 days out and 50 percent from 30 to 14.
