The short answer

With small children, book the introduction to the northern lights in Luosto: it takes all ages, a child under four goes free and the whole family pays just over 200 euros, but it runs on Mondays only. With children of twelve or more, the snowshoe trek into the national park charges them half and is the cheapest hour here. The snowmobile evening costs a family about twice as much as either.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Lapland Safaris: introductionLapland Safaris: snowshoesLuckyRanch: snowshoesLapland Safaris: snowmobile
Adult price €85 – the lowest adult price €99 €108 €184
Length 2 h 2.5 h 2.5 h 3 h
Adult price per hour €42.50 €39.60 – the lowest price per hour €43.20 €61.33
Child fare €43 (4–14), €0 (0–3) €50 (12–14) Not stated €92 (4–14), €0 (2–3)
Two adults, a child of six and a child of three €213 Not taken Not stated €460
Two adults and two children of 12–14 €256 €298 €432 at the adult price €552

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest adult price and the lowest price per hour. Lapland Safaris shows its child fares only when children are added to the participants, and the family totals use them. LuckyRanch's listing shows one price, so its figure uses the adult price four times.

Where these figures come from
  • Lapland Safaris: introduction: A talk about the aurora and a short outing, the lowest price and the one evening in the table that states it takes a baby. Mondays only, from 29 December.
  • Lapland Safaris: snowshoes: The cheapest hour, a trek into the national park with the outfit lent. From twelve, and a child of twelve to fourteen pays half.
  • LuckyRanch: snowshoes: A walk past the ranch animals to a frozen lake, with a warm saloon. One price per person and no age given in our record.
  • Lapland Safaris: snowmobile: The highest price and the dearest hour. Children ride in the guide's sled, from four at half the adult fare and at two or three at no charge.

An aurora evening in Pyhä-Luosto costs an adult between 85 and 184 euros. For a family the gap widens or narrows with the children’s ages, because each tour sets its own youngest age and its own child fare.

With children under twelve

Two tours take them. The introduction to the northern lights in Luosto takes all ages, charges 43 euros from four to fourteen and nothing under four, so two adults with a six-year-old and a three-year-old pay 213 euros. The snowmobile evening takes children from two in a sled behind the guide at 92 euros, and the same family pays 460, more than twice as much. The introduction runs on Mondays only, from 29 December.

With children of twelve to fourteen

The snowshoe trek opens up, and it charges a child of twelve to fourteen 50 euros, half the adult price: 298 euros for two adults and two such children. The introduction comes to 256 for the same family and the snowmobile evening to 552. LuckyRanch shows one price, so four people pay 432 at the adult rate unless it quotes a child fare. The zipline by headlamp at the adventure park in Pyhä takes nobody under fifteen.

What an hour costs

Divided by its length, the snowshoe trek is the cheapest hour for an adult at 39.60 euros, the introduction 42.50 and LuckyRanch’s walk 43.20. The zipline comes to 55 an hour and the snowmobile evening to 61.33.

The first week of January

Lapland Safaris’ January 2027 calendar charged more at the start of the month. One adult with a child of four to fourteen and a child under four paid 149 euros for the introduction on 4 January and 128 on the 11th. On the snowshoe trek one adult and one child paid 173 up to the 6th and 149 from the 7th, and the snowmobile evening cost 322 on the 2nd against 276 from the 7th.

What you do on each evening while you wait for the sky is compared on the northern lights in Pyhä, the snowmobile trips for families by day on family snowmobile safari in Luosto, and the rest of the area on the Pyhä-Luosto destination page.

Questions people ask

Can we bring a baby?

On the introduction evening, yes: Lapland Safaris lists it for all ages, with children under four at no charge. Its snowmobile evening takes children over two only, and the operator does not recommend snowmobile safaris for younger ones. The snowshoe trek starts at twelve and the zipline at fifteen. LuckyRanch's listing gives no age in our record, so ask before booking with a baby.

Our children are thirteen and fourteen. What can they do?

More than younger children, but not everything. They can join the snowshoe trek at the child fare of 50 euros, the introduction at 43 and the snowmobile evening at 92, riding in the guide's sled unless they are over 140 cm and pay the adult price. They cannot drive a snowmobile, which needs a driver of 18 with a licence, or join the zipline, which starts at fifteen.

Is the snowmobile evening all right during pregnancy?

No. Lapland Safaris says its snowmobile programmes are not suitable for pregnant women, because of the vibration on uneven tracks and the exhaust fumes. The introduction evening, a talk and a short outing, and the walking tours are the ones to ask about instead.

Lapland Handbook Staff

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
