Pyhä-Luosto: activities, tours and guides

Pyhä and Luosto are two small fell villages inside Pyhä-Luosto National Park, about an hour and a half from Rovaniemi, and between them they sell most of the winter outings this handbook covers.

Pyhä and Luosto are two small fell villages that share a national park, one of the oldest in Finland, and a bus route.1 Most of the tours below start in one village or the other, and a few from somewhere on the road between them, so check where a tour meets before you book it.

The nearest airports are Rovaniemi and Kittilä. The transfer from Rovaniemi takes about an hour and a half, the bus runs four times a day in winter, and some departures are timed to meet flights.2 The nearest railway stations are at Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi.1

Huskies, reindeer, snowmobiles, the northern lights and ice fishing are all sold here, and so is one Santa programme, a private visit near Pyhä; the Santa guide below sets it against a day in Rovaniemi.
