The best snowmobile tour in Pyhä-Luosto for what you want from the day

The short answer

For a first ride, book the guided tour with pick-up: it is the cheapest here, lends the gear and takes small children in a covered sledge. For the aurora, choose the evening ride from the ranch by the lake. For a family or group that wants reindeer as well, the private ride to a farm keeps strangers out. Only experienced adults should book the day over the fells.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: lowest adult price. The private farm ride is priced per person sharing a snowmobile, for a group of up to seven. A longer tour is not a better one, so length carries no mark.

Where these figures come from
  • First ride, with pick-up: Two to three hours with gear lent, collected from your door, for beginners and families.
  • Evening from the ranch: A night ride from the ranch by Lake Pyhäjärvi, with dinner by a fire as an option.
  • Private, to a reindeer farm: Four hours for your group alone, riding to a reindeer farm and eating a stew in a restaurant.
  • Day over the fells: About 100 km of track between Luosto and the Pyhä fell, with lunch, for riders of fifteen and over.

Each of these tours is built around a different reason to be on a snowmobile.

A first ride

AapaMoments’ guided tour lends the thermal gear, collects you and offers an easy-going ride as well as one for experienced riders, each on a snowmobile of their own.1

An evening

LuckyRanch rides out at night from its ranch by Lake Pyhäjärvi, with a dinner by a fire for those who add it.2

Reindeer, privately

UniQ Lapland takes one group to a reindeer farm, where the guests feed the animals, and then to a restaurant for a reindeer stew.3

A whole day

Lapland Safaris’ full day crosses about a hundred kilometres of track between Luosto and the Pyhä fell.4

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

What licence does the driver need?

A car driving licence. The guided tour with pick-up asks for a category B licence, the ranch's evening ride for a valid driving licence, and the private farm ride takes no driver under eighteen. On the guided tour with pick-up two people share a machine and can switch drivers during the ride, so both should bring a licence.

Can one person have a snowmobile alone?

On the guided tour with pick-up, one person per machine is offered as an option, at a price the listing does not print. On the private farm ride, you book an extra place in a special age group to get a machine of your own. Lapland Safaris charges a supplement of 85 euros for a solo machine on the day over the fells.

Who pays if the snowmobile is damaged?

Lapland Safaris' snowmobile trips from Luosto cap the driver's personal liability at 980 euros and sell a waiver that lowers it. The other listings here do not state a figure, so ask before the ride what you would owe. On the Luosto trips the waiver costs 20 euros and brings the liability down to 150.

Lapland Handbook Staff

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
