Family Santa in Enontekiö: what the children need to know

The short answer

The forest visit suits most families with children who can walk a short way in snow: it is outdoors, private, collected from Hetta and done within an hour and a half. Dress the children yourselves, because the company expects guests to bring winter clothing. A family who would rather have snowsuits provided and everything arranged should look at Muonio's Christmas package instead.

For a family the Enontekiö Santa visit is an outdoor outing, and the clothes matter more than the ticket.

Clothing

The company’s terms put the winter clothing and footwear on the guests.1 Snowsuits, boots, hats and mittens for every child are yours to bring. Muonio’s Christmas package is the nearby option that includes winter clothing.

The cold

The same terms let you cancel free of charge if it is below minus thirty-two at the site. Short of that, the visit goes ahead, and the forest part lasts thirty to forty minutes.2

For older children

Nothing on the page is aimed at a particular age, and the meeting is private, so teenagers are not sharing Santa with a queue of toddlers.

What each option costs a family is on Santa Claus price in Enontekiö, and the reindeer visits that suit the same children on family reindeer in Enontekiö.

Questions people ask

Is there a minimum age?

The forest visit's page sets none. It is sold per family with at least two people and at most six, and it describes a walk into the forest led by an elf, so the limit in practice is whether your youngest can walk or be carried for that part. Muonio's Christmas package says it suits families with children of all ages.

What if our children do not speak English?

The company says Santa speaks English fluently, though not as his first language, and invites parents to translate for a child who does not follow. It also asks for the children's names and a few details about them when you book, which lets Santa greet each child personally whatever language the rest of the conversation is in.

Do we need to book transport?

No. The company either collects you from your accommodation in Hetta or meets you at its starting point in Vuontisjärvi, and its terms put the travel from Hetta at usually about half an hour in total. Levi and Rovaniemi need your own car, 100 and 218 minutes each way, which is a long day with small children.
