The short answer

Visit Inari's ride is the cheaper of the two at 198 euros an adult, and the only one with a child fare, so a family of two adults and two children aged four to eleven pays 673.20 euros there. Wilderness Hotel Inari charges 230 an adult and prints no child fare. Both include the transfer to the farm. For more time on the sled per euro, Saariselkä's long ride is the cheapest hour.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest price per adult and the lowest price per hour on the sled. The per-hour row divides the adult price by the time on the sled each seller gives, which is approximate on every listing. The Saariselkä rides are about 56 minutes' drive from Inari.

Where these figures come from
  • Visit Inari: A three-hour outing with about an hour on the sled, transfer from Inari hotels and winter clothing included, and a child fare.
  • Wilderness Hotel Inari: A three-hour outing with about an hour on the sled, two to a sled, transport and a warm drink included; no child price printed.
  • Saariselkä family ride: Two and a half hours with about half an hour on the sled, from a kennel about 56 minutes' drive south of Inari.
  • Saariselkä long ride: Five hours with about two hours on the sled and lunch, for children over twelve and adults, about 56 minutes away.

On the ticket, Inari’s two husky rides are 32 euros apart. Both sell about an hour on the sled inside a three-hour outing, so that is the whole difference.

What a family pays

Visit Inari charges 198 euros an adult and takes 30 per cent off for children from four to eleven, which makes 138.60 a child. Two adults and two children in that age band pay 673.20 euros. A sled to yourself costs 260 instead of 198.1

Wilderness Hotel Inari charges 230 euros a person, with two people sharing each sled, and prints no price for children.2 A family can price two adults at 460 euros and must ask for the rest.

What the price covers

Both include the drive to the farm and back and a hot drink. Visit Inari adds winter clothing, permits and insurance to every trip, and collects guests from hotels in the village.3 Wilderness Hotel Inari’s page lists no clothing, so ask before relying on it.

An hour on the sled, compared

Divided by time on the runners, the Inari rides cost what they cost, since both give about an hour. In Saariselkä, the half-hour family ride works out at 338 euros an hour on the sled, and the day with about two hours on the sled at 143.50, the cheapest hour of the four. Which of these suits your party is on the best husky tour in Inari.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

What happens if we have to cancel?

Visit Inari takes full payment when you book a winter activity, and for dates from 1 December to 31 March keeps 50 euros as an office cost if you cancel 15 days or more ahead, and the whole price from 14 days. Wilderness Hotels' terms vary by booking channel; for a winter date booked through its own online system, free cancellation ends 90 days before arrival.

What does an accident with the sled cost?

At Visit Inari, a guest's own liability for an accident on a husky safari is at most 500 euros per accident, set out in its safari information. Wilderness Hotel Inari's ride page and its group terms say nothing about liability on a husky safari, so ask what applies before you drive. Travel insurance is recommended by both sellers' terms.

Is there a cheaper way to meet the dogs in summer or autumn?

Wilderness Hotel Inari sells a husky farm visit for 55 euros a person, an hour and a half with transfers, from June to the end of November, and a ride in a wheeled cart behind the team for 129 euros, from fifteen years old and only when it is colder than ten degrees. Neither is a sled ride, but both put you with the dogs for less.
