Santa Claus price from Kemijärvi: what each option costs

The short answer

The cheapest meeting is Santa's office in Rovaniemi, free to enter, with the photographs sold separately. The Salla afternoon costs 105 euros, but ask whether that is per person or per family before comparing. The guided day from Kemijärvi costs 349 euros a head, which puts two adults at 698 euros before any child, and buys the transport, clothing and lunch rather than a different Santa. Only that one states its cancellation terms.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

No row is ranked: the Salla figure has no stated basis, so the three prices cannot be set against each other per head.

Where these figures come from
  • Santa Claus Office, Rovaniemi: Free to enter, an hour's drive from Kemijärvi. The photographs are sold separately at the office.
  • Salla Arctic Circle afternoon: An afternoon with Santa, Mrs Santa and gingerbread, fifty minutes away; the price does not say whom it covers.
  • Guided day from Kemijärvi: Transport from town, a winter outfit, lunch and a guide, with the photograph charged on top.

Three figures, and three different things behind them.

What each price buys

The office in Rovaniemi charges nothing at the door; the money there goes on the pictures and the fuel. The Salla figure buys a short programme around the meeting. The guided day’s fare buys the logistics: a car from Kemijärvi, the clothing, lunch and a guide, with Santa himself no different from the one you could visit for free.1

Why only one total

A family total needs a child price, and neither paid option prints one. The only sum the listings support is two adults on the guided day. Ask Salla and the guided day’s seller for their child fares before you decide, because that answer changes the comparison more than any line in the table.

The options themselves are described on Santa Claus from Kemijärvi.

Questions people ask

How much are the photographs at the Rovaniemi office?

The meeting is free and the pictures are not. This site's Rovaniemi guide gives the office's price list: a downloadable set of photographs and video from 55 euros for up to five people, extra people at 5 euros each, additional files at 25 euros and prints from 40 euros. Budget for that if a professional picture matters, or take your own where it is allowed.

Do the prices apply outside Christmas?

Only one of them is certain to. The Salla afternoon is sold for December and January alone. The guided day's listing gives no season, so ask whether it runs on your dates before counting on it. Santa's office in Rovaniemi is open all year and free to enter, which makes it both the cheapest option and the only one this site can confirm for a spring or autumn visit.

Is anything else charged on the guided day?

Two things, by the listing's own list. Alcoholic drinks are not included with the lunch, and photographs with Santa cost extra, without a figure. Everything else it names is in the fare: the air-conditioned vehicle, the winter clothing, the guide, the lunch and the meeting itself, so the per-person price is close to the whole cost of the day for a family that brings no souvenirs home.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
