Privacy

This site collects very little about you. This page says what, why, and what you can do about it.

Who is responsible

The controller of the personal data described here is the company that operates Lapland Handbook, named with its business ID on our contact page. Contact: [email protected].

What we do not collect

  • There are no accounts, logins, comment forms or newsletter sign-ups on the site.
  • We do not show advertising and do not sell or share data with advertisers.
  • Fonts and images are served from this site, so reading a guide does not send requests to font or image services run by anyone else.

Hosting

The site is served through Cloudflare Pages. To deliver a page, Cloudflare processes technical data about the request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. This is necessary to run the site and is based on our legitimate interest in keeping it available and secure. Cloudflare's own privacy policy describes its processing.

Analytics

We plan to use Google Analytics to see which guides are read and how people move between them. It is not running yet. When it is switched on, it will only load if you agree to analytics cookies, and you will be able to refuse or withdraw that consent at any time.

If you agree, Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and records how you use the site: the pages you view, roughly where you are, your device and browser type, and how you arrived. According to Google, it does not log or store individual IP addresses from users in the EU. Google processes the data on our behalf, and some of it may be transferred outside the EU under the safeguards described in Google's privacy policy. The legal basis is your consent. This page will be updated with the exact cookies and the retention period when analytics goes live.

The booking widget

The tour pages under Activities carry a booking calendar from Bókun, the booking system our supplier uses. Nothing is fetched from Bókun while you are reading: the calendar loads only when it comes into view, which on a phone means only if you scroll down to it. Anything you enter to book, such as your name, contact details and payment, goes to Bókun and the tour operator, not to us. Bókun may set its own cookies. Their handling of your data is covered by Bókun's privacy policy and the operator's own terms. Bókun tells us which bookings came through this site; we never see your payment details.

Bókun's calendar does not arrive alone, and you should know what comes with it. When it loads, it also loads Google Tag Manager, Google Maps and New Relic from Google's and New Relic's servers. Those are Bókun's own choices, not ours: we do not run analytics on this site, we did not add them, we cannot switch them off from here, and we receive nothing from them. What they do with the request is governed by Bókun's privacy policy and by those companies' own. If you would rather not load any of it, the pages elsewhere on this site carry none of it, and you can read every figure about a tour without the calendar ever loading.

Your theme setting

If you switch between the light and dark theme, your choice is saved in your own browser's local storage so the site remembers it next time. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to us, and you can remove it by clearing your browser's site data.

Emails you send us

If you email us, we use your address and message to reply and to deal with what you asked, such as checking a correction. We keep the correspondence only as long as we need it for that, and do not add you to any mailing list.

Your rights

You can ask us for access to the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, to restrict its use or to stop using it. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw consent at any time. Write to [email protected]. If you believe we have handled your data unlawfully, you can complain to the Data Protection Ombudsman's Office in Finland at tietosuoja.fi.
