Northern lights snowmobile tours in Levi: which evening to book

The short answer

Choose by the stop and by who is coming, since the price barely differs. With children, book one of the two that spell out how children ride: Safartica takes them from four in a sledge behind the guide, Tokka Safaris sells a child seat in a sleigh from three. For quiet trails of the operator's own and a guide who helps with photographs, book Lovimainas. Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park warns of a late start and calls its trip best for adults.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest price per person. All four last three hours, price per person for a seat on a shared snowmobile and include winter clothing. Only price is marked.

Where these figures come from
  • Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park: A late start, by the listing's own warning, and a listing that calls the trip best suited for adults, though children can ride in a sledge. It does not say where the tour stops or cancel for cloud.
  • Lovimainas: Its own trails rather than the shared tourist routes, a guide who is a photographer and helps with the camera, and a campfire in a teepee. A heated sleigh is sold separately for anyone who does not want to drive.
  • Tokka Safaris: The lowest price, sausages over an open fire at a hut, and a child ticket that is a seat in a sleigh, from age three. Riding alone is not included.
  • Safartica: The only listing that says how much of the evening is driving: about an hour and a half to two hours. Children from four sit in a sledge behind the guide, and there is a campfire with a sausage and a pastry.

An aurora snowmobile evening in Levi is a three-hour ride after dark with a stop somewhere warm, sold on the chance that the sky clears while you are out. The four tours here include winter clothing and put two people on each machine, so the choice turns on the parts of the evening the price does not show.

With children

Two listings say plainly how children travel. Safartica seats children aged 4 to 14 in a sledge behind the guide’s snowmobile and says the evening includes about an hour and a half to two hours of driving. Tokka Safaris sells a child ticket that is a seat in a sleigh, from age three, and stops at a hut to grill sausages over a fire. Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park lets children ride in a sledge but gives no age and calls its trip best suited for adults, with a warning that it starts late.

Away from the shared routes

Lovimainas describes its evening as a ride on its own trails rather than on the shared tourist routes, led by a guide who is a photographer and shows you how to photograph the aurora if it appears. The stop is a campfire in a teepee. For anyone in the group who would rather not drive, it sells seats in a heated sleigh as a separate product, and both have to be booked for the same night.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

What happens if the sky is cloudy?

The tour goes ahead. Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park says it will not cancel because of the weather and that you can rebook only if you ask more than 24 hours before the start; Lovimainas and Tokka Safaris say the aurora cannot be guaranteed, and none of the four listings mentions a refund for an empty sky. You are paying for a ride in the dark with a chance of the lights, so book early in your stay if the aurora matters.

Can I drive a snowmobile on my own?

Not at the listed price. All four price a seat on a snowmobile shared by two, and Tokka Safaris lists a single drive among the things not included. None of the four prints a supplement for riding alone on the parts of the page that open without a date, so a solo traveller should ask before booking whether a machine of their own is possible and what it costs.

What do I need to bring to drive?

A physical driving licence. Tokka Safaris requires a valid category B licence for drivers aged 18 or over and says copies and photographs are not accepted, and that a guest without the card cannot drive and gets no refund. Lovimainas asks for a licence accepted in Finland, and Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park lists the licence under what to bring.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
