Private Santa visit in Ylitornio: a house on the river

The short answer
Book Santa's River House if you want your family to have Santa and Mrs Claus to yourselves. The visit is reserved for your party, runs for an hour and a half by the house's own site or two hours by its booking page, and includes crafts, treats, an elf name and unlimited photos of your own. The official printed photo is extra. Confirm the length and price when you book.
Santa’s River House is a log house by the Tornio river, a stone’s throw from the Swedish border, and its whole idea is privacy: your family meets Santa and Mrs Claus at a time reserved for you.1
What the visit includes
Stories, crafts to take home, Mrs Claus’s baking, an elf name for each guest and unlimited photographs with your own camera. The hosts say they shape each visit to the ages and interests of the party, so no two are quite alike.2
Where the two pages disagree
The house’s own site gives 97 euros a person, an hour and a half, and free entry for children of three and under. Its booking page gives 101.64 euros with fees included, two hours, and free entry up to two, charging children from four the same as adults. Book on whichever page you like, but confirm the length and the fare for a three-year-old in writing.
What it does not include
The official printed photograph with Santa and a postcard to send home are extras. A public day with Santa is described on Santa Station in Ylitornio, and the two are compared on best Santa Claus visit in Ylitornio.
Questions people ask
Does private mean we will be the only ones there?
The house's own words are that you meet Santa privately with your family and friends at the time reserved for you, and its booking page lists private time with Santa among what is included. It does not describe how other parties are scheduled around yours, so if absolute privacy matters, for instance for a child who is anxious with strangers, say so when you book.
Can we visit in Finnish?
Yes. The booking page lists the visit as offered in English and Finnish, and the list of what is included mentions communication in either language. The house does not mention other languages, so for a family who would rather speak German, Italian or another language, ask in advance whether that can be arranged rather than assuming it.
Is there a private Santa visit anywhere else nearby?
Not in the Tornio valley that this site could find. Tornio and Kemi sell no Santa programme, and the Santa station in Ylitornio is a public day ticket. Rovaniemi, about an hour and a half away, has several private visits, compared on this site's Rovaniemi page, but for a family already in the valley the river house saves the drive.
