The short answer

The cheapest priced guided trip within reach is the two-hour Kukkola rapids outing near Tornio at 95 euros a head, with equipment. The Keminmaa pond costs 120 but includes transport and a soup lunch; the Kemi sea trip costs 155 and includes the snowmobile and a winter outfit. For the Ylitornio trip, open its booking calendar for your date. Going out alone, an adult may owe a fishing fee from six euros a day.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Nordic Safaris, KukkolaLapland Salmon LodgeSea Lapland Safaris
Price per person €95 – the lowest price per person €120 €155
Two adults €190 – the lowest total for two adults €240 €310
Included beyond fishing Equipment, a fire Transport, lunch Snowmobile, outfit
Duration 2 h 5 h 2 h

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest price per person and the lowest total for two adults. All three print a price per person and no child price, so the totals are for adults only. The Ylitornio trip is left out because its price appears only in a dated calendar.

Where these figures come from
  • Nordic Safaris, Kukkola: Two hours at the rapids near Tornio with equipment, a winter mat and a hot drink by a fire, for two people or more.
  • Lapland Salmon Lodge: Five hours at a private pond in Keminmaa, with transport and salmon soup in a kota included.
  • Sea Lapland Safaris: Two hours by snowmobile onto the frozen Bothnian Bay from Kemi, with a winter outfit and helmet lent.

Ice fishing from Ylitornio costs whatever the trip down the valley costs, plus a drive, unless you book the local trip and learn its price on the day you choose.

The price per hour

Divided by their length, the three trips come out very differently: about 47.50 euros an hour at Kukkola, 24 at the Keminmaa pond and 77.50 on the Kemi sea trip. The pond is the dearest ticket after the sea but the cheapest hour, because its five hours include the journey and lunch; the sea trip packs a snowmobile ride into two.

The fee no tour lists

If a family fishes on its own, an adult aged 18 to 69 who fishes with a lure owes the national fisheries management fee: six euros a day, sixteen a week or forty-seven a year. A single rod through the ice is exempt, except on rapids of migratory-fish waters and where a water has its own permit.1 The local trip and the rules for the border river are on ice fishing in Ylitornio.

Questions people ask

Is a fishing permit included in these prices?

None of the four trips says so. The Tornio outings describe the drilling, the gear and the fire, the Keminmaa and Kemi listings the transport and the outfit, and the Ylitornio booking page only the length and age. Ask each seller in writing whether any permit or the national fee is covered before you pay, particularly for fishing on the border river.

What does driving a snowmobile alone cost on the sea trip?

The Kemi trip prices per person with two sharing a machine and lists a supplement of 55 euros per driver, depending on availability, for anyone who wants a snowmobile to themselves. That brings one solo driver to 210 euros. The Ylitornio trip does not say whether you drive or ride, so ask about the arrangement and any supplement when you book.

Which cancellation terms are kindest?

The two platform-sold trips from the Kemi area allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The Tornio company refunds in full only when you cancel more than 48 hours ahead and keeps the whole price inside that. The Ylitornio booking page prints no cancellation terms for its ice-fishing trip, so ask for them before you commit.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
