Posio: Korouoma, Riisitunturi and what to book

Posio is home to two of southern Lapland's best-known winter landscapes, but nearly every tour sold under its name starts in Rovaniemi.

Two places bring visitors to Posio. Korouoma is a canyon whose walls freeze into ice falls in winter; the day trips to it, nearly all of which start in Rovaniemi, are compared in Korouoma canyon from Rovaniemi. Riisitunturi is a national park on a fell above Lake Kitkajärvi, where in winter the spruces carry so much crown snow that they turn into rounded white shapes, and it is a popular place for snowshoeing.1 The guided trips to Riisitunturi sold on the booking platforms also start in Rovaniemi.

The one outing on the platforms that starts in Posio itself is a family farm visit to meet sheep, cats, chickens and herding Border Collies. Staying in Posio, you can see Riisitunturi on your own: the park has day-trip hiking trails and an open wilderness hut.

Off the platforms, Kota-Husky runs husky rides from a farm beside Riisitunturi National Park and sells them on its own site; they are compared in husky safari in Posio.

What the farm visit includes, what it leaves out and what the listing will not promise are set out in sheep farm in Posio.

Each of the six activities has a page of its own for Posio, and each of them answers the same question differently: husky safari, northern lights, snowmobile safari, reindeer, Santa Claus and ice fishing. Between them they name what is sold here, what is not, and how far the nearest of each is.
