Private ice fishing in Levi: how to have the ice to yourselves

The short answer

For a family or a small group, e-mail the operator that takes private bookings and ask for your own departure: it lends thermal clothing and takes children from four. For a group of eight, booking every place on a small-group trip is the simplest private trip in Levi, with nobody else's timetable to fit. Either way, confirm in writing that nobody else will join.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Nothing is marked: none of these is sold as private, and the prices are for places rather than for a group. What a family pays is on the ice fishing price page for Levi.

Where these figures come from
  • Private booking by e-mail: Thermal clothing lent, children from four and a campfire, as a private departure on request.
  • Small group, heated shelter: Salmon soup in a heated shelter, limited to eight, so a party of eight can book every place.
  • Small group, lake further out: A lake twenty minutes away, limited to eight, so a party of eight can book every place.

No ice fishing trip in Levi is sold as private, but there are two ways to have the ice to yourselves.

Ask for a private departure

Wild Nordic says on its own page that it takes private bookings by e-mail, with a minimum of two people at the full adult price. Its trip lends thermal clothing to everyone and grills any catch over a campfire.1

Book every place

Keo Wilderness limits its trip with salmon soup in a heated shelter to eight people,2 and Beyond Arctic its trip to a lake further out to the same number.3 A party of eight that books every place has either one to itself.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

What should the e-mail say?

The operator asks for the name of the tour, the date and the number of participants. Add the ages of any children, since it takes children from four at a lower fare, and ask whether a private departure costs the same as places on a shared one or more. Offer two possible dates, so there is room to agree on one.

Can a couple have a private trip?

The operator taking private bookings sets a minimum of two people at the full adult price, so a couple can ask for one. On the small-group trips a couple cannot keep others off the ice, since a departure is only private when every place is booked. For two, the e-mail route is the realistic one.

Do private trips keep the catch?

On the trip taken by e-mail, any fish caught are grilled over the campfire, and that is the same on a private departure. The small-group trips do not say what happens to the catch, so ask when you book. Fish are not guaranteed on any of them, and a private trip does not change that.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
