Northern lights tour prices in Levi

The short answer

Count your party before you compare prices. For one or two people a shared seat is the only sensible buy, and the long chase costs the least per hour even though its ticket is the dearest. From four people the cheapest private tour costs less in total than four seats on the long shared chase, while the short campfire and sleigh evenings stay cheaper for any party up to six.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest total for four and the lowest total for six. The Arctic GM hour uses its listed eight hours; the listing says the chase typically runs six to ten. Totals multiply the per-person price by the party, because the listings show one per-person price. Only the totals are marked.

Where these figures come from
  • Safartica: campfire: The lowest seat price, with winter clothing included and three set pick-up points. It waits in one place for three hours, so it is the cheap evening for a clear night.
  • Lovimainas: heated sleigh: A few euros more a seat for three hours under a heated roof, with eight people at most and a shuttle to and from the park.
  • Arctic GM: group chase: The dearest seat and the cheapest hour of the shared tours, because the chase typically runs six to ten hours. For a party of four to six, the private hunt beside it costs less in total.
  • Lazy Santa: private hunt: One price for up to six, collected from your accommodation, with winter clothing and half the price back if nobody sees the aurora. With six aboard it is the cheapest hour in the table.

An aurora evening in Levi is sold by the seat or by the private group, and the listing price of one says nothing about the other. Put a number on your party and the comparison becomes simple arithmetic.

By the hour, the dearest seat is the cheapest

Safartica’s campfire costs 92 euros for three hours, 30.67 euros a person for each hour. Lovimainas’ heated sleigh comes to 33 euros an hour. Arctic GM’s group chase has the highest ticket at 199 euros, but spread over its listed eight hours it is 24.88 an hour, the lowest of the shared tours. If the goal is time out under the sky, the long chase is the cheapest way to buy it.

When a private tour costs less

Lazy Santa Safaris sells a five-hour private hunt for 684 euros for up to six people. Against Arctic GM’s shared seats it wins from four people: four seats on the chase cost 796 euros, more than the whole private tour. With six aboard the private hunt comes to 22.80 euros a person an hour, the lowest figure in the table.

Against the short tours it wins later or not at all. Six seats on the campfire cost 552 euros and six in the sleigh 594, both below 684, and the private tour takes no more than six. So for a group of six the choice is not about money alone: the private hunt costs a little more than the short evenings and lasts longer, with pick-up from your door and half the price back if the sky stays empty.

For one or two people

A private tour priced for six makes no sense for a couple. Pay for seats: the campfire if the forecast is clear, the long chase if it is not.

Which kind of evening suits you, whatever it costs, is argued on the northern lights in Levi, and the private tours are compared on what they include in private northern lights tours in Levi. One tour for each situation is named in the best northern lights tour in Levi, and the rest of the resort is on the Levi destination page.

Questions people ask

Is pick-up from our accommodation included?

On some of these tours. Lazy Santa Safaris starts its private hunt from your accommodation, Northern Lights Safaris collects you from accommodation in the Levi area, and Lovimainas runs a shuttle to and from its park. Safartica's campfire collects from three set pick-up points rather than your door. Arctic GM's group listing, as we recorded it, says nothing about pick-up, so ask before you book if you have no car.

Do children pay less?

The listings we read give one price per person, so ask each operator whether a child fare applies. On a private tour the question does not arise: the group price is the same whether the six seats hold adults or children, which is one more reason a private tour works out well for a family filling every seat.

What do we get back if the sky stays cloudy?

Of the tours here, only one pays anything for an empty sky: Lazy Santa's private hunt promises half the price back if there is no sighting. Arctic GM refunds in full only when the weather stops its tour from starting at all, and Lovimainas refunds its sleigh evening at minus 30 °C or colder, which is about cold rather than cloud. The campfire and the snow village evening set no rule of their own.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
