Saariselkä: activities, tours and guides

Saariselkä is a fell village on the edge of Urho Kekkonen National Park, 25 kilometres from Finland's northernmost airport, and every kind of activity this handbook covers is sold from it.

Saariselkä is a small resort village on the E75, with Finland’s northernmost ski slopes on two fells beside it and the trails of Urho Kekkonen National Park starting at its edge.1

It is quick to reach by air and slow by land. Ivalo Airport is about 25 minutes away by car, and airport buses meet the scheduled flights. There is no railway: the nearest stations are further south, and the bus from Rovaniemi takes about three hours for the 260 kilometres.2 That distance is why the guides below compare the operators in and around the village rather than sending you south for anything.

Every kind of activity this handbook covers is on sale here: huskies, reindeer, snowmobiles, the northern lights, ice fishing and a Santa programme. Most of the tours compared in the guides include a pick-up, but from a list of set locations or within a set radius, so check it if you are staying outside the village.
