Husky and reindeer tour in Ruka: which combination

The short answer

To drive the dogs and ride a proper distance behind a reindeer, book the winter village's cabin and husky combination: the lower price, and less than its two trips booked separately. For young children who would enjoy many short turns, a lunch and a lift from the resort, book the animal park morning, which runs from January for groups of at least ten.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: Lowest price per adult. and Lowest total for two adults and two children aged 5 to 11.. The two-trip prices add the village's cabin trip and husky ride. Child fares are not ranked, because the age bands differ.

Where these figures come from
  • Lammintupa: cabin and huskies: A 1.5 km reindeer sleigh to the cabin and five kilometres driving your own dog team.
  • Rukapalvelu: animal park: Short turns with huskies, reindeer and a snowmobile, mini snowmobiles for children and a soup lunch.
  • Lammintupa: two trips: The village's reindeer cabin trip and five-kilometre husky ride, booked apart.

Around Ruka, huskies and reindeer on one outing come in two forms: a proper ride with each, or short turns with many animals.

A ride with each

The winter village at Lammintupa takes you to its reindeer cabin by sleigh, a kilometre and a half behind the reindeer, and then gives you five kilometres driving your own dog team, with a snack in a hut.1 It is the lower price, and €10 per adult less than the village’s reindeer cabin trip and husky ride booked separately.2

Many short turns

Rukapalvelu’s arctic animal morning gives about 1.2 km behind the huskies and 300 m behind a reindeer, a short snowmobile ride, mini snowmobiles and a toboggan hill for the children, and a soup lunch. The transport from the resort and winter clothing are included, but it runs only from January and for at least ten people.2 A booking platform lists the same morning from €249.3

On request

Ruka Adventures lists a snowmobile safari to a reindeer and husky farm on request only.4

The husky rides are compared on husky tours in Ruka, and the reindeer farms on reindeer farms in Ruka.

Questions people ask

Do we need our own winter clothing?

At the winter village, yes: Lammintupa asks you to bring suitable winter clothing for both the cabin trip and the husky ride. Rukapalvelu's animal park morning includes winter clothing and transport from its Gear House or the Kuusamon Tropiikki spa hotel. Families without snowsuits for the children should factor that in when comparing the prices.

Is there another way to see both from Ruka?

Ruka Adventures lists a snowmobile safari to a reindeer and husky farm, but only on request, so it has no fixed price or day. Its snowmobile safari to a reindeer farm runs on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and includes a 300 m reindeer sleigh ride, but no huskies, so it is a snowmobile and reindeer morning rather than this combination.

How late can we cancel?

Both sellers here keep the whole price inside two days and half inside a week. Lammintupa also cancels its own trips when fewer than four book, by four in the afternoon the day before, and refunds the price. Rukapalvelu's morning needs ten people, so ask how late it confirms.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
