Private ice fishing in Utsjoki: what is on offer

The short answer
Book the six-hour day on the fells. It is priced for your party rather than per seat: 740 euros for two, and 117 for each further guest up to six. It gives you a guide for the day, lunch, clothing, the permits and the wilderness licence. For a shorter private outing or a party above six, email the village company, which arranges other fishing programmes on request.
No ice-fishing trip in Utsjoki is sold as private. One is priced as if it were.
The flat-rate day
The village company’s full day, listed on a fishing marketplace, is six hours on the fells at one flat rate for two guests, with a set fee for each extra guest up to six, rather than a price per seat among strangers. It includes the pick-up, the sleigh ride, a guide for the whole day, lunch, clothing and boots, the fishing permits and the licence to enter the wilderness area.1 Priced for your party with a guide of your own, it is private in all but name.
Anything shorter
Nothing shorter is priced for a party. The same company says it arranges family fishing programmes, and longer ones from half a day to several days, on request by email.2 That is the route for a family that wants a guide to itself for two or three hours: describe the party and ask for a price, rather than booking a group trip and hoping.

Questions people ask
Could a short group trip end up private anyway?
It can, but nobody promises it. The Karigasniemi hotel runs its trip for two to seven people and the holiday village needs two adults, so a couple might find no one else booked on the day. Neither page says the trip is closed to others. If it matters, ask when you book whether other guests are expected, rather than counting on a quiet day.
Where does the full day start?
From your accommodation, if it is within ten kilometres of Utsjoki village: the listing includes the pick-up, and says further locations are possible for an extra payment. From there it is a snowmobile sleigh ride into the wilderness to a lake the guide chooses, and the same way back at the end of the six hours.
Can we cancel the full day?
The listing links to the provider's own cancellation terms rather than printing them. The same company's terms on its own site give free cancellation up to seven days before a tour, and charge the full value of the order for a cancellation inside that or a no-show. Read the linked terms before you pay, since a six-hour day is the costliest ice fishing sold here.
