Family snowmobile safari from Posio: where the children ride
Children rarely ride where adults do: each operator decides where they sit.
The short answer
With children aged three to eleven, choose Kemijärvi's Suomutunturi or Salla's Ruuhitunturi ride, both of which print a child fare; ask each where the child sits. Ranua is the nearest and says children under fifteen ride in a sled behind the guide, but prints no child price. In all three, only an adult of eighteen or over with a licence drives.
Snowmobiling with children from Posio means driving to a neighbour, and each neighbour prints something different about children.
Kemijärvi
The Suomutunturi safaris print a child fare for ages three to eleven on every ride, from 40 euros on the one-hour ride.1 The page does not say where the child sits.
Salla
The ride to the Ruuhitunturi fell hut prints a child fare of 57 euros for ages three to eleven.2 Again, ask where the child rides.
Ranua
The nearest option says plainly that children under fifteen travel in a sled pulled by the guide, and prints no child price.
What a family actually pays on each ride is added up on snowmobile safari price from Posio.

Questions people ask
Can a teenager drive?
Not in Ranua, whose listing requires drivers to be eighteen with a car driving licence; a teenager too old for the guide's sled rides as a passenger behind a parent. Kemijärvi and Salla price anyone over eleven as an adult but do not print a separate driving age, so ask before promising a teenager the handlebars.
Do the children need their own winter clothes?
Ranua lends winter outerwear in the price, Kemijärvi's fell company says its price includes equipment, guiding and insurance, and Salla's company says you can start in everyday clothes. None of the three prints children's sizes, so bring warm layers, mittens and a hat for the youngest in any case and ask about small sizes when you book.
How long is the drive from Posio with children?
About an hour to Ranua, an hour and twenty-five minutes to Kemijärvi and an hour and a half to Salla, each way. With small children the drive can take longer than the ride, so pair a short ride with the nearest base, or make a day of Kemijärvi or Salla with a longer route and a fire at the top.
