Reindeer safari price in Levi: the family total, not the headline

The short answer

For a family on a budget, the shortest ride priced per head is the cheapest total, and a short loop is often enough for small children. Once children come along, the riverside farm's child fares make its rides better value than the adult price suggests. Pay for the longest ride only if the sleigh itself, rather than the reindeer and the farm, is what the family wants.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Sámi herder, 800 mRiverside farm, 1 kmRiverside farm, 3 kmForest ride, 3 km
Adult €89 – the lowest adult price €129 €169 €175
Child Not stated €99 €99 Not stated
Two adults, two children €356 – the lowest family total €456 €536 €700
Sleigh ride 800 m 1 km 3 km 3 km

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest adult price and the lowest family total. The riverside farm's prices are the lower of its two price periods. Where a listing prints no child fare, children are counted at the adult price, so ask for one: it could narrow the gap.

Where these figures come from
  • Sámi herder, 800 m: An hour with a Sámi herder and a short sleigh loop, priced per head with no child fare printed.
  • Riverside farm, 1 km: Two hours with calves to feed and a drink indoors, with its own child and baby fares.
  • Riverside farm, 3 km: The same farm with a half-hour sleigh ride through the forest, again with child fares.
  • Forest ride, 3 km: A three-kilometre ride and young reindeer to feed, priced per head with no child fare printed.

Reindeer rides from Levi are priced per person, and only one farm prints what a child pays.

The farm with child fares

Ounaskievari, a Sámi family’s farm by the Ounasjoki River, charges children from two to eleven a separate fare and babies a small one for the transport. Its short ride costs 129 euros an adult in the cheaper period and 99 a child,1 and its three-kilometre ride 169 an adult and again 99 a child.2

The rides priced per head

The listings sold through GetYourGuide print one price per person. The cheapest buys an 800-metre loop with a Sámi herder; the dearest buys a three-kilometre ride and time with the young reindeer.3

Questions people ask

Is the transfer from Levi extra?

No. All four rides in the table include the ride out from Levi: the herder's loop lists pick-up and drop-off, the riverside farm lists transportation from Levi, and the forest ride lists a round trip. That matters for a family without a car, since the farms are outside the village and a taxi for four would change the totals.

Do babies pay?

At the riverside farm, children under two pay a small fare that its seller describes as covering the transport. The listings priced per head do not say what a baby pays, so ask them before you book, and ask whether a baby can sit on a parent's lap in the sleigh.

Is clothing included in the price?

Not at the riverside farm: warm winter clothing is extra and is rented at its seller's shop in the centre of Levi. Add that to the family total if you did not bring snowsuits and boots. The listings priced per head do not print what they lend, so ask them the same question before comparing totals.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
