Private husky tour in Tornio: two kennels, two meanings of private

The short answer

A couple who want to drive should book the Swedish kennel's driving tours, which are built for two guests with a guide each. A family of up to four fits its private seated ride. A larger party should ask the Keminmaa lodge, which sells a private safari without printing a group limit, or split across two departures on the Swedish side. Private does not mean a flat group price at either kennel: both charge per person.

Near Tornio, private is the ordinary way to buy a husky ride rather than an upgrade on a shared one.

Across the river: private by default

The kennel on the Haparanda side sells only private tours; it says so of all of them.1 Its privacy has a fixed size. The seated ride takes a party of two to four, and the driving tours are built around two guests, each with a guide on their own sled.2 A private tour there is priced per person, not per party, so a couple and a family of four pay by the head just as they would on a shared ride.

In Keminmaa: private for your group

The lodge in Keminmaa sells its two-hour safari as private, with only your group taking part, again at a price per person.3 Its listing prints no upper limit on the group, which makes it the more flexible of the two for a larger party, and it prices in euros where the Swedish kennel prices in kronor.

Which to ask

A couple who want to learn to drive belong across the river; a family of up to four can take either; a bigger group should start in Keminmaa. What these tours cost and include is on husky safari price in Tornio, and the full comparison is on husky safari in Tornio.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

Can we choose our start time on a private tour?

Only partly. The Swedish kennel's four-hour tour starts at eleven, and the Keminmaa safari at ten; neither listing offers another hour. The seated ride on the Swedish side is sold as a daytime ride with lunch or an evening ride with a snack, so that one gives you a choice of part of the day, though not a printed clock time.

Is there a private option out of Kemi with the winter clothing included?

Not among the rides this site has read. The Kemi company's husky ride is the one that lends a full winter outfit, and its listing describes two participants sharing a sled rather than a private departure. Ask it whether it will run a departure for your party alone; if it does, that would be the only private tour here with clothing included.

What happens to a private booking if we cancel?

At the Keminmaa lodge, the booking platform allows free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. The Swedish kennel sells directly and prints no cancellation terms on any of its tour pages, which matters more for a private tour than a shared one, since a departure held for your party alone is not refilled by someone else. Ask for its terms in writing before you pay.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
