Where these figures come from
  • Visit Inari: two hours: The lowest ticket: two hours from the village with winter clothing, fuel, insurance and a pickup from Inari hotels included.
  • Wilderness Hotel: two hours: Two hours after a driving lesson, two to a machine, with helmets listed as the only equipment lent.
  • Wilderness Hotel: four hours: A day with lunch and warm drinks, on the same terms, and a cheaper hour than the hotel's two-hour trip.
  • Inari Onnela: private day: Four hours on the lake from Nellim as a private group, with clothing, lessons, fuel and snacks. The cheapest hour; the transfer costs extra.

Around Inari the cheapest ticket and the cheapest hour are different trips, and neither is the one the platforms put first.

What an hour costs

Visit Inari’s two hours from the village cost 125 euros, 62.50 an hour.1 Wilderness Hotel Inari charges 145 for two hours and 225 for four with lunch, so the longer day works out cheaper by the hour, at 56.25 against 72.50.2 Inari Onnela’s private day from Nellim is 180 euros for four hours, 45 an hour, the lowest of all. The fell lodge on Route 92 sits at the top: 77.50 an hour for its two-hour trip and 66.67 for its three.

What driving alone adds

Sharing is the default everywhere, two adults on one machine. A snowmobile of your own adds 37 euros at Visit Inari and 40 at the fell lodge, where it is paid on site. On the Nellim day it costs extra by an amount the listing does not give, and Wilderness Hotel Inari prints no single price.

What each ticket leaves out

The transfer, on the Nellim day: it starts on the lake shore and prices the car from Inari only on request, so a family without a car should ask before counting it as the cheapest hour. Visit Inari includes the pickup from hotels in the village, and winter clothing. Wilderness Hotel Inari lists helmets but no suits or boots, and the fell lodge lends a helmet and thermal suit and expects you to drive there yourself.

Where each trip goes and how big the group is are set out on snowmobile safaris in Inari, and the rest of the area is on the Inari destination page.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

When do we pay, and what if we cancel?

Visit Inari takes the full price when you book a winter activity, and for dates from December to March keeps 50 euros if you cancel 15 days or more ahead and everything from 14 days. The fell lodge and Nellim listings cancel free up to 24 hours before. Wilderness Hotels' terms vary by channel; booked online for winter, free cancellation ends 90 days before arrival.

Do children pay less?

None of the snowmobile trips here prints a child fare. Wilderness Hotel Inari seats children under fifteen in a sleigh behind the guide and quotes one price per person, and Visit Inari's day trips take no one under twelve. Ask the hotel what a child in the sleigh costs before you add up a family's bill, because the page does not say.

What do the evening aurora trips by snowmobile cost?

Visit Inari's three-hour evening expedition costs 179 euros sharing a machine and 219 alone, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Wilderness Hotel Inari's two and a half hours cost 175 euros. The fell lodge's aurora evening seats you in a sleigh towed by a snowmobile for 160 euros. What each is worth for the lights is weighed on the northern lights in Inari pages.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
