Snowmobile and ice fishing in Levi: which trip to book

The short answer

With small children, book Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park's three hours: children from one ride in a sled behind the guide and winter clothes are lent. For a longer day with lunch cooked on the fire, book Safartica's five hours, but ask about its age rule first, because the listing gives two. Kinos Safaris prints its route and serves campfire snacks. Easy Travel costs the most, and takes a guest without a licence along in the sled.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Safartica: 5 hArctic Circle Snowmobile Park: 3 hEasy Travel: 3 hKinos Safaris: 3 h
Price €209 €189 – the lowest price per person €245 €190
Length of the trip 5 h 3 h 3 h 3 h
Food Soup lunch cooked on a fire Hot drinks Coffee or tea, sausages on a campfire Drinks, sausages and cookies

Children 4–14 in a sledge, but also listed as not for under-12s 1–14 in a sled behind the guide In a sled; not under 4 12+ as a passenger, over 120 cm

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest price per person. All four price per person with two people sharing a snowmobile. Only price is marked: a five-hour day with lunch is not comparable with a three-hour trip on price alone.

Where these figures come from
  • Safartica: 5 h: The long day: a soup lunch cooked on an open fire while you fish, and the only listing that prints a price for riding alone. Its age rule is given two ways, so ask before booking with children.
  • Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park: 3 h: The lowest price and the youngest children: from age one in a sled behind the guide. Winter clothes and pick-up from set points in Levi are included.
  • Easy Travel: 3 h: The dearest of the four, with its own transport and a campfire with sausages. The one listing that takes a guest without a driving licence along as a sled ride. It does not list winter clothing.
  • Kinos Safaris: 3 h: A route of about 25 km, winter outerwear, the fishing licence, and sausages and cookies by a fire. Children ride as passengers from 12 and 120 cm, with no sled offered in the listing.

Ice fishing from Levi is sold two ways. The guided fishing trips compared in the Levi ice fishing guide go out by road and cost less. The trips on this page reach the lake by snowmobile, so they are priced and run as snowmobile safaris, with a driving licence, a shared machine and the child rules that come with them.

With young children

Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park takes the youngest, from age one, in a sled towed behind the guide’s snowmobile, and recommends that a parent sits in the sled with a small child. Easy Travel also puts children in a sled, from four. Kinos Safaris offers no sled in its listing: a child can ride as a passenger from 12 and 120 centimetres. Safartica says children aged 4 to 14 ride in a sledge, but the same listing marks the trip as not suitable for children under 12, which is the question to put to the operator.

For a longer day

Safartica’s trip lasts five hours, with a soup lunch cooked on an open fire while you fish, and it is the only listing that prints the price of riding alone: 90 euros extra per person. Meeting is at its office in Levi, with a pick-up on request within ten kilometres.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

Will we catch anything?

Perhaps. Easy Travel's listing says a catch is not guaranteed but that patience gives you a good chance, and the other three promise a lesson and the equipment rather than fish. Safartica's soup can be eaten with whatever you catch. Treat a fish as a bonus, and tell a child in advance that the snowmobile ride is the sure part of the day.

What if someone in the group has no driving licence?

Only one listing offers a way round it: Easy Travel says a guest without a licence can come along as a sled ride behind the guide. Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park and Kinos Safaris require a licence to drive and do not say whether an adult without one can ride as a passenger; Safartica does not say either. Ask the operator before booking rather than finding out at the start.

Is a fishing licence needed?

Kinos Safaris lists a fishing licence in the price; the other three list the equipment and the lesson and do not mention one. On a guided trip it is the operator's to arrange, so there is nothing for you to buy in advance. How the permit rules work for ice fishing in Finland is set out in the Rovaniemi ice fishing guide.

Lapland Handbook Staff

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
