Husky and reindeer tours in Levi: which combination to book

The short answer

Decide first whether you want to drive the dogs yourself. Keo Wilderness is the one listing here that says the guide teaches you and hands you a team, and it has the longest husky and reindeer rides of the four in the table. If you would rather sit and watch, Polar Lights Tours puts the guide on the sled. Lovimainas is the cheapest and adds a sleigh towed by a snowmobile between the two farms. All of them are tasters rather than safaris.

How the operators compare

Prices are the operators' own published starting prices as of the date this guide was updated, and they change through the season.

Highlighted figures are the best in that row: the lowest price per person. All four price per person. Only price is marked: a longer ride is not a better one for every family, and steering the dogs yourself is a preference, not an upgrade.

Where these figures come from
  • Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park: 500 m + 500 m: The longest of the four at two and a half hours, with a transfer from set points in Levi. Both rides are 500 metres, and the listing does not say who steers the dogs.
  • Lovimainas: 1.5 km + 0.6 km: The cheapest of the four, and the only one with a third ride: a heated sleigh towed by a snowmobile between the reindeer farm and the huskies. A kota to warm up in.
  • Polar Lights Tours: 1.5 km + 500 m: The one to book if nobody wants to drive: the listing says the guide steers the husky sled. Pick-up from the centre of Levi and a farm presentation.
  • Keo Wilderness: 2 km + 800 m: The longest rides with both animals, and the one listing that says you get a team of your own after a lesson. The reindeer half comes with a Sámi herder's stories.

A combination tour in Levi pairs a short ride behind huskies with a short ride behind reindeer, usually at two farms near each other, and brings you back to the resort within two or three hours. The listings are unusually exact about the rides themselves: each prints a distance, and that distance is the best guide to what the ticket buys.

If you want to drive the dogs

Keo Wilderness is the choice. Its listing says a guide teaches the basics of dog sledding and then gives you a team, and its husky run of two kilometres is the longest of the four. The reindeer half is 800 metres with a Sámi herder, also the longest here, and the transfer from the meeting point takes about ten minutes.

If you would rather be driven

Polar Lights Tours says outright that the guide steers the husky sled, which suits a family where nobody wants to handle a team. Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park and Lovimainas do not say who holds the sled, so ask before you book if it matters to you either way. Lovimainas has the extra of a heated sleigh pulled by a snowmobile between the two farms, which a child who is cold will appreciate more than the distances.

If you want more in one outing

Two tours sold in Levi go further and are listed under the table. Easy Travel runs three hours with a two-kilometre husky ride and a one-kilometre reindeer ride, the longest reindeer ride on offer, and collects you from your hotel. It costs 250 euros and does not include thermal outerwear. Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park sells a four-hour version of its tour that adds a shared snowmobile ride and lends winter clothes, for 198 euros; driving the snowmobile needs a physical category B licence.

For what each animal is like on its own, the best husky tours in Levi and reindeer rides in Levi compare the longer single rides. How a combination day works in general, and what the reindeer half usually is, is in husky and reindeer tours in Rovaniemi. The rest of the resort is on the Levi destination page.

One reindeer tour for each purpose, including a farm without a sleigh and the days that add a snowmobile, is named in the best reindeer tour in Levi.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

Is a combination cheaper than booking the two rides separately?

At Keo Wilderness it is. Its combination costs 150 euros for a 2 km husky ride and an 800 m reindeer ride. Booked on their own, its 5 km husky run costs 150 euros and its 800 m reindeer ride 89 euros, so the pair would be 239. What the combination saves in money it takes back in distance: the husky run is less than half as long.

Can children come on these tours?

Probably, but only one listing says how. The four-hour tour that adds a snowmobile seats children in a sledge towed by the guide's snowmobile. The other five print no age limit, so ask before you book with small children, and ask whether a child sits with a parent on the husky sled.

What if we have to cancel?

Five of the six listings allow a free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. Easy Travel's three-hour tour asks for two days' notice instead, which matters if the forecast turns or someone in the family falls ill the evening before. That listing also leaves thermal outerwear out of the price, so it asks the most of your own planning.

Lapland Handbook is written by its editorial staff in Rovaniemi. Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it. Each guide names who should not book, and names the operator that suits each kind of group, whichever it is.
