The short answer

For the lowest bill, book the family trip from the lodge on Lake Kitka, if you have a car and your dates are certain, because it cannot be refunded. Without a car, the snowshoe trip with hotel pick-up costs only a little more for a family and lends the clothing. The same trips cost more on a booking platform than in the resort shop.

Tours you can book

Questions people ask

Is the fishing gear included in the price?

On the three trips run by safari companies, yes. Rukapalvelu includes the equipment with hot juice and winter clothing, Ruka Adventures lends the fishing gear with snowshoes and clothing, and Ruka Safaris includes gear and a winter outfit and drills the hole with you. The family trip and the Kitka River trip print no gear line, so ask them when you book.

What happens if not enough people book?

Rukapalvelu needs four adults on its trip and Ruka Safaris four people on an open departure; if the number is not reached, the trip does not run. Ruka Adventures prints fixed departures on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Ask the seller when you will hear and whether you are offered another day or your money back.

Is a longer trip better value?

Only if you want the extras. Northern Lights Expedition's three to four hours at €95 include a cottage and the catch cooked for you, and Ruka Safaris' three hours at €98 include a fire and a snack. Rukapalvelu's two hours at €98 give about an hour and a half on the ice, so per hour it is the dearest here.

Every price, age limit and group size in a comparison is read from the operator's own page and marked "Not stated" when the operator does not publish it.
