Husky safari in Posio: where the sleds actually are

The short answer
Book the local kennel. Kota-Husky runs its sleds from a farm beside Riisitunturi National Park, and sells rides of ten, twenty and thirty kilometres on its own site, with a child fare and free cancellation up to two days before. The one husky ride the booking platform files under Posio collects its guests in Rovaniemi and drives them out and back, which makes no sense from a bed in Posio.
Posio has a kennel of its own. The booking platforms do not show it, and the one husky ride they file under Posio turns out to start in Rovaniemi.
The kennel at the park’s edge
Kota-Husky keeps its dogs at a farm beside Riisitunturi National Park and sells three day rides on its own site: ten kilometres in about two hours, twenty kilometres into the park with lunch, and thirty kilometres over six hours. Two adults share a sled and take turns driving, children under twelve have their own fare, and anything beyond ten kilometres starts at eight years old.1 The farm expects you to arrive under your own steam; a transfer costs extra.
The listing that starts in Rovaniemi
The ride the platform shows under Posio is also ten kilometres in Riisitunturi, but its day is built around Rovaniemi: pick-up within fifteen kilometres of that town’s centre, two and a half hours in a car each way, and nine hours on the label.2 For a visitor already in Posio, it means driving away from the park in order to be driven back to it.
Choosing a ride
The short loop is the one for a first time and for children from four; the park ride and the long day are for a party that already knows it likes the dogs. How the three compare for families, on price and against the kennels an hour away in Ranua is set out on the best husky tour in Posio and husky safari price in Posio.

Questions people ask
Can small children come on the sled?
Yes, on the kennel's terms. Children under four ride free with a paying adult, and four to twelve pay the child fare. Two adults share a sled, one driving and one sitting, and one child can travel with them; any other children go with the guide. The eight-year minimum applies only to the rides longer than ten kilometres, so the short loop is the family ride.
How do we get to the kennel?
By car, or with a transfer the kennel arranges for an extra charge: its prices say plainly that getting to the farm is not included. The farm is at Karjalaisenniemi in Posio, on the edge of Riisitunturi National Park. Ask for the transfer price when you book if you have no car, because it changes the cost of a short ride more than of a long one.
Why do the prices differ from the tourist office's programme?
The Posio tourist office's weekly programme lists the same rides at lower figures, for example 145 euros for the ten-kilometre ride against 175 on the kennel's own site, and a family ride that the kennel's site does not show. This site quotes the kennel's own prices, which are the ones its booking takes; if you book through the tourist office, ask which price and which terms apply to your date.
